This is the time to shine as the light of the world, spreading joy, love and kindness wherever we find ourselves. This is the best season to show love to your neighbor.
Before I show you “how” to love your neighbor this pandemic, let’s see “why” we show love our neighbors in this pandemic first. Read on…
WHY WE MUST LOVE OUR NEIGHBOR IN A PANDEMIC
1. God is love and we abide in God
One of God’s character and nature is LOVE. In our union and communion with God, we become love beings like him. 1 John 4:16
2. The First and Greatest Commandment
The most important commandment is “You must love your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind.”
The second is equally important: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22: 36-39
3. We are God’s children
As God’s dear children, we follow his example in all we do.
4. We build our neighbors up
When we offer helping hands to our neighbors and cater for their needs, we build and strengthen them up. Romans 15:2
5. Do for others what you would like them to do for you
Putting ourselves in another persons situation enables us to feel what they are facing and lend a helping hand. So then, whatever you desire that others would do to and for you, do also to and for them.
Now we are aware of “why” we must love our neighbor in a pandemic, let’s see “how to” next!
HOW TO LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR IN A PANDEMIC
1. Obey those in Authority
In Romans 13: 1-7 God clearly instructs us to be good citizens by being loyal to governing authorities because they have been ordained by God himself. God also tells us that those who refuse to obey authorities will face due punishment. Ensure you are aware of the instructions governing your country, state, city and region at these times and stick with them.
2. Share the Right Information
Show your neighbor love by sharing the right information only. Before you click on the “send or share” button double check the source of the information. Is it from a reliable source? Is this information helpful? Let your response be affirmative before you send it. Don’t spread panic by sharing wrong information.
3. Keep contact with your neighbor
Remember it’s “social” distancing not “relational” distancing. Staying indoors all alone could lead to depression. Some persons may feel abandoned and think no one cares, make a difference in their lives by putting a call across, send a text message or a video call.
4. Give material things
If you have extra toiletries or foodstuffs you could leave some at your neighbors door.
5. Support your local organization
These are organizations whose activity are faith based, non profit etc focused on supporting vulnerable children or the elderly one’s this season. You could reach out to them, find out ways you can support and actually helping out!
These little acts of kindness can change your neighbors life forever! Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony and we are all members of one body. So love your neighbor now!
