A leprous man who would have suffered societal isolation and religious stigmatization because of his health condition met with Jesus. After hearing the sermon of Jesus from afar, he had no doubt about the power of God to do the impossible. However, he was not sure if Jesus would be willing to attend to him considering his unclean state. He said to Jesus, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean”. (Matthew 8:2) Jesus – God in flesh wasted no time, He reached out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. – (Matthew 8:3). Picture it. Jesus didn’t only say He was willing, He showed it by stretching His hand to touch him.
Most times, we don’t doubt the power of God to heal. We know that He can do all things (Mark 9:23), that nothing is too hard for Him to do (Jeremiah 32:27). We know that He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. (Eph. 3:10). But we often second guess His willingness to heal, more so, His willingness to heal us. Friend, Jesus’ statement to the leprous man is the exact words of God to you today “I am willing” He says.
Regardless of what you have been told or have experienced, God wants you well. We see this all through scriptures from the Old to the New Testament. God wants His people healed.
Let’s look at some Old Testament scriptures that proof God’s will for His people:
- And the Lord will protect you from all sickness. He will not let you suffer from the terrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but He will inflict them on all your enemies! – Deuteronomy 7:15 NLT
- Worship the Lord your God, and His blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you. – Exodus 23:25 NIV
- (God) Who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases – Psalms 103:3 AMP
- He (God) sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. – Psalms 107:20 NKJV
These scriptures and more reveal to us that God even in the old covenant wanted His people well. We are later told in Hebrews 8:6 that we, Christians- believers in Christ- have a better covenant established on better promises. What is better should at least have what the lesser had and more! If healing was guaranteed in the old covenant, it is more than guaranteed for us in the New covenant! And scriptures tell us so.
Prophet Isaiah speaking about our time said “Surely He (Jesus) took up our pain and bore our suffering… He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds, we are healed. – Isaiah 53:4-5 NIV
We understand that Isaiah here was talking about the redemptive work of Jesus. Yes, Matthew said Jesus fulfilled this scripture in Matthew 8: 17. So Jesus the Living Word was sent by God for our salvation which includes our healing! He came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8) which includes sickness. See, Jesus came to this world to destroy sickness and He did! That is why after Jesus paid the price for our redemption, Apostle Peter wrote that by His stripes we were healed. (1 Peter 2:24). Quoting the words of Prophet Isaiah, Peter implied that the promise has been fulfilled. It is now in the past tense. It is done. It is finished!
Friend, God already did something for us to be well and remain so.
I can hear you say, so why I am sick?
Well, let me tell you the story of Mr Jones. Jobless, broke and indebted, Jones needed money so badly to pay some bills and feed his family. Frustrated and depressed, he thought really hard about how to solve his problems. He didn’t know that a friend who heard about his situation had sent some money to his bank account. The money was enough to pay up all his debts, clear his bills and even stock up his kitchen for 3 months! He didn’t know because his phone was lost and the friend couldn’t reach him to tell him.
Pause for a minute…
Did he have all the money he needed? Yes.
Did he solve his problems? No.
Why so?
Because he didn’t know he had money in his account.
Friends, Jesus has taken our sicknesses, He carried away our pains in His own body so that we don’t have to carry them. If you don’t know this, you might not enjoy the health Christ has paid for.
Let’s continue with Mr Jones’ case. What if someone told him about the deposit his friend made to his account, does that solve his problem? Not actually.
He needed to believe the information enough to take a walk to the bank and make a withdrawal.
Friend, if you did not know before, I have just told you Jesus has taken all your pains and sicknesses. Like Jones, you need to believe it and take delivery of your healing today! So this is the process; know about your healing, believe it and then take delivery of it.
How can I do that you may ask?
You see when you visit a medical doctor, you are given some medications and the dosage needed to cure you. Our great physician, has also given us His prescription. We find it in Proverbs 4:20-22;
“Listen carefully, my dear child, to everything that I teach you, and pay attention to all that I have to say. Fill your thoughts with my words until they penetrate deep into your spirit. Then, as you unwrap my words, they will impart true life and radiant health into the very core of your being.” – TPT
Friend, we take delivery of our healing by ingesting the word of God continually. Like the physicians’ prescriptions, we take in the word. If the symptoms persist, we increase the dosage. This medicine is both preventive and curative. It has no side effects! God’s word works!
I assure you, on the integrity of God’s word; you can live a sickness free live. God loves you too much to leave you sick, He’s got that covered already!
Stay safe IN HIM and Stay healthy.
